Bird sanctuary - Tipperne
Interested in nature?Interested in birds? Then you must visit Tipperne, a peninsula in the south end of Ringkøbing Fjord. For decades the area has been preserved to obtain an area for breeding and resting for web-footed – and wading birds. And it has succeeded. Today Tipperne is an important resting area for migratory birds in Denmark. Every year tens of thousands of wading birds, originating from Scandinavia and Siberia, visit the area.
These bird migrations from their “winter home” to the breeding ground are an impressive sight. In July – August, when the wading bird migration is peaking, you can see i.e. sandpipers, sparrows, snipes and golden plovers. All year the Danish national bird, the swan, can be seen. Tipperne is closed untill the 1. march.
